The Purpose

UNICEF is working in a number of areas in Morocco to protect child rights. One such right is the right to experience a childhood, one where they are cared for and safe. However, for many children in Morocco this is not a reality because they are either forced into child labour, are sexually exploited or suffer violence in schools.  Another key programme area is the right to be healthy. UNICEF is working to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates. These are particularly high in rural areas where women don’t always have access to the right health care.  To address the problem, UNICEF is supporting maternal waiting houses, which provide a safe haven for expectant mothers and their families.

The Trek

The Trek for the Children of Morocco will take place in the awe-inspiring landscape of the Sahara Desert.

The trekking route is designed to take in as much of the desert’s beautiful and varied scenery as possible, from huge sand dunes to arid, boulder-strewn plains. We will be walking well away from the established travel routes and along a trade route that is still used by the nomadic Berber and Toureg tribesmen, whom we hope to encounter along the way.

This is a great opportunity to set myself a physical challenge; to fundraise for UNICEF and learn more about our work in their field; and to visit an amazing part of the world!

At the end of the trek, we will visit a UNICEF project in the Ouarzazate area to see first hand just how much of a difference all of our support makes to the children of Morocco.

Getting There With You

Big picture aside, let's get personal. My name is Jon and my brother, Josh, introduced me to this program. In order to participate in the Trek we each have to raise at least £2,900 (~$4,500) for the Purpose.

It is not possible for us to make this happen without your help.

Many hands make less work, as they say. We would like to present you the opportunity to make a meaningful donation. 100% of the funds, less any fees Eventbrite charges to process the transactions, will go to UNICEF. Even if we do not meet our goal and cannot participate in the Trek, all funds will still be donated to UNICEF.

Helping You

In trying to think of creative ways to add even more value to your donation (beside an obvious wonderful cause) I decided I would also like to offer my professional technical analysis of your website. I'm an experienced web developer, designer and specialize in user interface.

I'm not going to setup any specific guidelines. Let us assume we're all reasonable people. I aim to provide, at the very least, a link to your site here and on a custom site I'm developing for this; perhaps a written review if desired; on up to inspecting the code that makes up your site's frontend. Generally: providing constructive criticism on ways you can improve your site with the amount you donate dictating the amount of time I give back. 

If you don't have a website, maybe you have a friend or family member that has one that you would like me to check out. Whatever adds value, to you. Finally, if none of this is important to you and you'd still like to donate -- that works, too!
